Financial Aid Overview
How students pay for college
Financial aid can help students pay tuition, fees, and other educational expenses. Blue Ridge students may use a mix of grants, scholarships, work study, payment plans, employer support, savings, or loans.
Types of Aid
Grants, scholarships, work study, and loans
Federal and state grants
Need-based aid tied to FAFSA information. Grants generally do not need to be repaid.
Scholarships
Scholarships may come from Blue Ridge, the Educational Foundation, or outside organizations.
Work Study
Part-time campus employment for eligible students. Jobs are posted through the college.
Federal Direct Loans
Loans must be repaid with interest. Repayment is usually deferred while enrolled at least half-time.
Apply for Financial Aid
Start with FAFSA
The FAFSA is the main application used to determine eligibility for many forms of financial aid. Blue Ridge's federal school code is 009684.
Complete the FAFSA
Use accurate tax and household information so your eligibility can be reviewed.
Watch for follow-up requests
Financial Aid may need extra documents before your award can be finalized.
Ask questions early
Financial Aid can help you understand next steps, deadlines, and award notices.
